The audience had barely regained control on their emotions on watching the mid-credits scene of Captain Marvel (which released last Friday), and Marvel decided to take it up a notch. Without any prior announcement or teasing, Marvel dropped a new trailer for Avengers: Endgame.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe, also called the MCU, is bringing to closure its decade long plot. Though the MCU began with Iron Man way back in 2008, it was Thanos grinning in the credit scene of The Avengers that truly started this story arc. Avengers: Endgame will not only be a conclusion to this story arc but will also be the last outing for a few of our original Avengers.

Marvel has been trying to not give away any plot points of the movie. Marvel Head Kevin Feige has revealed that all the footage used in the trailers of Avengers: Endgame will only be from the first fifteen-twenty minutes of the film. So a lot of plot revelations were not expected from the trailers. While the first trailer showed the immediate after-effects on the Thanos’ snap, the latest trailer shows the Avengers (whatever is left of them) mobilising together to try and set things right. Both the trailers have a lot of hints with regards to the plot of the movie and we can only try and join these hints together to form plausible theories about the plot.

Avengers: Infinity War ended with Thanos snapping his fingers and eliminating half the lives across the universe (in Marvel terms, this event is called the decimation). According to the trailers, Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk, Thor, Rocket and War Machine survive the snap and are back to the Avengers Compound, trying to take stock of what has happened and what to do next. Iron Man and Nebula have survived too, but they are lost in space, with their oxygen supply about to run out. Towards the end of the first trailer, even Ant-Man is shown to have survived the snap.

Since long, the role of Captain Marvel in defeating Thanos was being discussed. It was only after the release of her solo film that we found out how she exactly fits into the MCU. The mid-credits scene of the film showed Captain Marvel finally coming back to Earth, responding to Nick Fury’s pager call.

The newly released trailer of Avengers: Endgame begins with the black and white flashbacks of Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. The flashbacks have scenes from their solo films and show the beginning of their journey of becoming the heroes they are today. It is pertinent to observe that these three characters are rumoured to be killed off in this film, hence their flashback scenes in the trailer. Another fascinating thing about these flashbacks is that not everything is black and white; the red colour is shown as it is.

It is no surprise that things aren’t the same as they were earlier. If something proves this, then it has to be the new avatar of Clint Barton (Hawkeye). From the cute, family guy, his looks and personality have undergone a complete change. Not only does he now sport a Mohawk hairstyle, but he also seems to have undergone a wardrobe change and looks as if he is out to avenge a great personal loss.

The biggest relief that the trailer brings is when we spot Iron Man and Nebula with the other Avengers. This means that they will make it back to the earth safely, and tickles our interest as to how will they do that. Seeing them alive would definitely boost the morale of the heroes back home. Iron Man meeting the surviving heroes will be nothing short of a reunion as the last time they met, they nearly destroyed an airport (cue- Captain America: Civil War).

The trailer is not all pain and guilt. It shows a few shots of the heroes in action, but as the shots are close-ups not much can be inferred from them. We see Rocket clinging on to War Machine as they prepare for battle, Nebula chasing an unseen enemy, Hawkeye all aboard some sort of a ship and Captain America picking up his shield with anger and determination.

The greatest cheering moment is when we spot the heroes wearing a new suit/costume. The scene features Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Nebula, Ant-Man, Hawkeye, and War Machine, embarking on what looks like a journey of some sort.

Just after the title card rolls, we are treated with one more scene. Thor is standing face to face with Captain Marvel and summons his hammer. Captain Marvel shows no reaction, but a smile, when the hammer flies into his hands. This is enough to impress Thor, who immediately announces his liking for the new recruit.

All in all, we know that the fight is far from over. The Avengers are going to stay true to their name — they are going to avenge and possibly undo the deeds of Thanos. The moral running through the trailer seems to be that we have been through a lot, but we are not giving up the fight, whatever it takes.
